Idles well and doesn't make a peep except what comes out the exhaust. Koni shocks all around, rear with adjustable spring perches. Tilton aluminium flywheel and clutch. Revolution 3 piece alloy wheels. 13 x 6 1/2" front with 185/60 Yokohamas. 13 X 7" with new 205 / 60 Sumotomo's in the rear. Adjustable rear lower links. 4 wheel disc brakes with stainless steel brake hoses. New front calipers. Momo steering wheel with air horn. Jacobs CD ignition. Centrifugal distributor. Header exhaust manifold. K&N Filter. New battery. New ball joints, trunnions, tie rod ends and bearings in the front about 10k miles ago. Aluminium billet crank pulley and alternator pulley. Uprated alternator. Electric fuel pump.

- Rebuilt the motor with hardened valve seats, Pinto racing valves, gone through the transmission, now working on the body. I am coating the exterior with West 105 epoxy. I made new suspension parts, new A-arms with rod ends to adjust camber/castor and lower rear links with rod ends. Added a rear anti-roll bar which had to be cut and new mounts made even though it was supposed to fit. Interior is getting cherrywood trim with new carpet and seat covers.

- Over $6500 in body/paint work – BEAUTIFUL! Rebuilt firewall. Stainless door hinges.
- Frame was chemically dipped then painted in POR15 paint.
- New windshield – tinted Triplex brand as original. Original door and rear glass.
- New Carpets. I have lettering for dash once the fascia is re-veneered.
- Rebuildable Twin Cam engine – used -- dirty outside, but well oiled inside. Crank turns freely and you can feel compression.
- Type 365 5-Speed transaxle from a 19k mi car.
- Factory alloy wheels in decent shape - old Michelin and Dunlop tires (plenty of tread but I wouldn't drive on them!)
- Many parts should be refurbed before installation, but I believe they’re all here.

- I had a 1973 Europa Special # 2888R. It was in the JPS colors, (Black with the gold pin striping & Black interior) with the special JPS number disk 021. I bought the car new from Sporteque Motors in Huntington LI, NY. I had replaced the original wheels with mini lights, and put Dunlap SP/SUPERS (I think that was the name) 205/60/13 on it in all four conners. This was back in 74 when the lower ratio tires started coming out. The car burned down in 1982.

- Have had it since 78 ran it two yrs and parked it. Work and kids, put it away. Brought it out in 98 I think, registered it and again put it away. School this time. Brought it out again in 2003 broke a brake line and parked it again under a portable garage. 2nd yr the snow got the garage. Of course it was the last storm. dropped about 2 ft and took out the windshield. The car was out of Ohio. Picked up in DC area driven by a little old woman. Drove it back and forth to Ohio. (64 yrs old) broke the linkage to the trans. Needs windshield and brakes, paint, this is for after retiring.

- 2935R was totaled by the owner of the dealers body shop in St. Louis in May of 1973, I didn't even have the car for 60 days and put only a few thousand miles on it. I guess it is possible the car may have been salvaged. When I saw it, the left front wheel and tire were crunched into the drivers seat! That car was featured in the 1973 St. Louis Auto Show.

- Undergoing a complete rebuild. The plan is to have it back on the road by 2007, it will be a different colour not decided yet but the body is in good condition with all crazing removed ready for the paint stripping treatment.

- The car is now a rolling chassis with only the shockers to renew. All components and nuts and bolts are new or fully rebuilt including an unused steering rack possibly one of the last around. I also made some adjustable rear lower links to get rid of the original links which were bent to adjust the rear camber!
- Update 1/23/08:
- Chassis is complete and the body has had a full restoration color Orange from the lotus color chart on your site, looks a million dollars in its new paint. Being an ex US car it has been fully converted to RHD and I have had the American style dash replicated for RHD.

- From Craigslist ad: 1973 Lotus Europa Special. Serial 73013040R. Five speed twin cam. The car is currently undergoing ‘sympathetic restoration’ to make it a decent driver. Good frame and body. A poor re-paint has been removed and the car is in primer ready for finish and paint. A sunroof was removed and the original panel fit back in. Minor stress cracks in the usual places have been filled. Suspension and brakes are being redone as required. New ball joints, trunnions, tie rod ends, caliper kits etc. Interior is stripped out and the dash is re-veneered. All original parts used where possible. Some carpet is to be replaced and seats are re done with original covers. New headliner. Engine has not been run in sometime and condition is unknown, although it has apparently been rebuilt. Car is complete and includes what parts I have accumulated so far. Also available is a set of MWS [minilite type] wheels. $6500 US. - I have owned this car since 1983. I did a complete body off retoration in the early 90's. Every moving part was replaced with new. (bearings, bushings, springs, shocks, etc) All frame components were medium blasted, zinc chromated, and sprayed in black Imron. New solid Oak dash fabricated, seats repaired, new carpeting. The car was put in storage in 1999 when I needed to move. I may need to move again soon, so I have decided to sell. When I took the car home (on a trailer) it had no brakes. I rebuilt the master cylinder and now have "pedal", but it still needs a thourough bleeding. I drained the fuel and rebuilt the carbs. While I had them off, and had easy access to the distributor, I installed a Pertronix electronic ignition system and coil. Now the bad. The car looks great from 10 feet away, but does need a good fiberglass guy to repair spyder cracks and respray. It does have "Droopy" doors that will need to be addressed. The Tach is not working (might have to do with new ignition system?) the speedo cable was melted by rubbing against the headers and needs to be replaced.

- 73023076R left the factory on 20 February, 1973 for Lotus Central in Schaumberg, Illinois, USA. The earliest owner I know of was Glen Migit of Tremont, IL. He stated that he was not the first owner, but bought the car in the late '70s from another gentleman, and had pictures of it in ugly silver paint. He repainted it to its original regency red color and sold it to Harlan Rollins of Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1982. Harlan sold the car to Frank Sundram, a local TV news director, in 1986. Frank's maintenance and repair records end in 1989. At some time Frank titled the car in South Carolina and I bought it from Tom Gaffney of Hilton Head, South Carolina, in 1998 (it still had Sundram's name on the title). I have owned the car since 1998.

- This is a very nice Europa that's ready to drive or show. I have been custodian for the car for about five years and driven it only a few times. It spends its day's and nights in a heated garage with my other cars.
- The odometer shows about 14k and while I have no way to verify this mileage, judging by the overall condition of the car I have no reason to doubt it. The car was repainted in its original black color and is very nice. The factory mags have near new Bridgestone tires.
- The interior is in very good condition and has new carpet and center console. All of the switches and gauges work properly. The only imperfections are that the steering wheel has a small nick in the leather cover and the wood veneer on the dash has a few small cracks in it.
- The car is mechanically sound and starts easily, has about 65# of oil pressure, does not overheat, and shifts well. There are a couple of small oil leaks as is typical of these cars.
- It's an impressive specialized machine for those who appreciate driving in its purest form.

This car has been stored in a heated garage and has been started and driven just enough to keep it in great working condition. This is a very very nice car and I am selling it due to the fact that I am moving to the west coast. This car has a 4 cylinder Twin CAM Lotus engine. It has all new tires and the brakes are like new. The interior is in like new condition considering the age of the car. This car is one of the nicest Lotus Europa's I have ever seen.

- I am offering my 1973 TC #3151 for sale. It is a complete but not running car. I bought it to restore but recent health issues have caused me to have to part with it before I have really begun. This car is a California car with what checks out to be a good solid frame with only surface rust. Suspension parts also. Moisture inside requires a new pedal assembly and new seats. Seat center sections and headrest are all useable. Car has never been in any serious accidents and the body has only a crack above the right front wheel. All glass is perfect with a new windshield and rear window which are not yet installed. Other missing items include windshield trim, engine cover lock, right rear tail light lens and an alternator. As mentioned it is not running but the engine turns over smartly with the starter motor. I have many photos to supply if you are interested.

Condition:- Greetings all - New to the Europa list but not to Europas, have had 3, 2671R, 3205R, 3238R. Currently I have a TCS chassis that has a bent rear but the front is solid and straight. This could be provide a good front 'T' section for someone who needs this portion. The price is right, a 30 Pack of Bud Light. I'm located 15 min. north of Boston if anyones interested. Does anyone remember Claudius, the Europa sunroof guy? For the last 5 years I've been maintaining a '73 TCS that he used as his prototype for his sunroof install. This is a strange car, the serial number is #2619, I think I have to verify this, but it has a 336 4 spd./TC engine w/stromberg head and a plaque on the drvrs door stating 'year of MFG does not denote year of title'. The woman who owns this car bought it new in New Jersey in '73 and drove it out to Calif., amazing, and Claudius kept the car for 2 years while he developed his sunroof pkg. Regrettfully, the car will never be for sale, the owner has promised to leave it to me in her will. The only way she'll sell it is if I marry her, she realizes the need for a good mechanic. My wife won't go for this though.

- This is my 1973 Lotus Europa Special. It has a twin cam big valve motor, and is very light. A perfect autocross car, for some. An invigorating drive for sure.
- It handles like a 1960 vintage F1 car.
- It's constructed very simply, having a center beam, with a wishbone out back, and a horizontal up front. The suspension is hung off the ends of the horizontal and wishbone, the mid engine is cradled, and rear visibility is Zero.
- It needs a little interior restoration. It's on a waiting list with a specialist.
- Notice how much smaller it is than the 1982 911SC Targa, next to it.
- The photo with the 997 GT3 on the left and the Targa on the right, shows it's tiny size too. Although, it's blurred by its own shadow from the flash, I hate garage photos.

- For auction is a genuine 1973 John Player Special Lotus Europa project. This is #49 of 200 ‘genuine’ JPS cars built by the Lotus factory. The car is an ideal candidate for a complete restoration. It is all original having been stored in a dry barn for almost 25 years. The car was put away when the head gasket failed and was not touched until it was pulled out and sold to me last year.
- As far as I can tell the body and chassis are straight and undamaged. The chassis shows only signs of light surface corrosion. All the suspension seems straight and just needs to be rebuilt. I have removed the seats and carpet, just because it was so dirty and full of dust etc. The radiator seems to have been replaced at some time way in the past and it is in great condition, ready to be re-used. The engine is the Federal version of the Lotus Twin Cam with Stromberg carbs. The transmission is the more desirable 5-speed.
- This will make a great restoration project and at the end you will have a fantastic performing piece of automotive history. Being a genuine ‘numbered’ JPS car it is quite rare, not just another ‘Black and Gold’ Europa.

Somewhere before San Diego, it went through Frank (SCW) and picked up an annodized aluminum dash and some collision repair. Black interrior, Maroon paint when I had it. Also had a Weber head. Last seen with the Weber head, Isky cams, bigger than big valves (on the exhaust, anyway), ported, polished, CC'ed, balanced motor, and just ready for shooting the paint. Sold to Frank in 1990.

- Just purchased Europa Special, chassis # 3307R 4/4/73 production, titled as 74. 32274 miles, with documentation of all prior (5) owners with state titles: Texas, Washington, Arizona, Georgia, Virginia.
- Spent first 20 years in Texas, has factory Cool Air a/c. Original color Lagoon Blue. Re sprayed to Sable in 84. Body is in good condition, the usual stress cracks around gas tanks, door handles & door pins needed. Paint is in poor shape, rear deck lid and roof peeling.
- Starts and was road tested prior to sale, 5 speed needs clutch. Release bearing noisy, 1st hard to find. Needs fresh shifter bushings and alignment.
- Engine appears strong compression 165 x 4. Receipts indicate rebuild at 26k. Battery box located to r/r tray w/ master switch to accommodate a/c compressor.
- Interior condition good, everything works with the exception to the passenger window. Upholstery was freshened in 98 to include carpets, seat inserts, console & dash.
- I am back in the fold again… after 30 years or so.
- Having the pleasure of first owning a brand new Europa in 1974…Chassis # 2943R purchased at Marco Competition Enterprises Montclair N.J.
- That one was L15 black with the JPS gold stripes sold in 76 to get a formula ford and go SCCA racing.
- I’ve gone full circle back to my roots.
- Well, it's been 2 months since the project started. The good news is the car finally turned a wheel for a short shakedown run!
- After an extensive complete general cleaning...
- Replaced the clutch release bearing, rebushed & polished the entire shift linkage, head gasket, carb overhaul, new ignition wires, cap, all filters, fuel and coolant hoses, gearbox flush & removed the entire cool air contitioning system.
- Installed new headers (coated by Jet-Hot) in sterling silver...they look like polished aluminnum & will never discolor. It goes to say that, I would recommend their services, price, turn around time, and results...look them up.
- Now that she's a driver it's on to addressing the passenger door hinge pin, and getting ready for paint & trim.

- After spending the last 3 months at Dave's paint shop,the Ropa is finally back in the garage for it's final reassembly. Now comes the fun part of hanging the doors,installing all the glass and sundries. The paintwork is stunning...so deep you get lost looking into it. I will let it cure for about 8 weeks before a final buff out by Sir Hoffman.

- I am the second owner of the car, which I purchased in 2000. The car currently is a non-runner in need of a decent amount of restoration.
- The car was bought in 1974 by some friends of my family, a husband and wife who worked with my father. If I remember correctly they bought it in Richmond, VA. The car resided in southeastern Virginia, and was the wife's daily driver from 1974 through 1978. The wife was transferred to a different branch located around Washington DC, so the car was garaged in 1978. The going thought was that she was going to be at the DC branch for a couple of years, and thus no need to really 'store' the Europa. Well, it turned out, she was in DC for over a decade! The car was sporadically driven between 1978 and 1981, after which it was parked (essentially in a barn) and did not move until I purchased the car in 2000.
- My first attempt to acquire the car was before I had my driver's license. My dad and I approached them about purchasing the car before I could drive, so we would have time to restore the vehicle as a father and son project. At that time they neglected to sell us the car; giving the excuse that they really didn't want to sell the car to anyone they knew. Roll the clock ahead 7-8 years, and after earning some money during various engineering internships and co-ops, we approached them again about buying the car. This time they were more receptive. It turns out the truth to not wanting to sell the car to us originally was the (most wise) assertion that a 16 year old new driver should probably not be behind the wheel of such a car. In any event, we went and saw the car and talked about a sale price of $2500 which I thought was reasonable considering the condition and such. I returned two weeks later to pick the car up, and when it came time to settle up, all they wanted was $1 and a promise that I would restore the car. I paid with a new Sacagawea dollar coin.
- The car's condition can best be described as needing serious maintenance. It has 31k original miles. The interior is remarkably clean; however the dash has the typically splitting. The seats are in decent shape, and the carpet needs to be cleaned but looks the best for wear. Being as they gave no real consideration to long term storage, the engine and transmission still have oil in them from the early 80s. This may be a double edged sword in that the internals may have been somewhat protected but sludge is a huge concern. Looking through the oil fill on top of the engine cover, the cam looks very clean with no rust. The exhaust had rusted away after the collector as it swings under the engine. The four speed transmission still shifts fairly easily, or at least as easily as a Europa transmission probably ever does. The fuel tanks have a little of what now can only be described as varnish (formerly gasoline), and will probably require quite a bit to get them back in good shape. The Stromberg carbs were quite clean inside. In terms of rust, the car has light surface rust in a lot of places but no serious cancer that I have found so far. I had some difficulty removing the rear suspension because of bound up bolts, but liberal amounts of Kroil helped solve most of that. The body is clean with no damage. It is actually on its second paint job with a maroon similar to the original but it no longer has its 'special' pin striping. The paint is spider cracked in the complex areas like around the head lights. The chrome needs some shining up, but is in decent shape. Interestingly, the car has the original spare tire.
- I moved to the Detroit area following graduating college, and I moved the car up here in 2002. Since then, I have not done a great deal other than remove the rear suspension, and some of the engine ancillaries. My next goal is to pull the engine and trans out. I need to stop working on my friends' race cars and call in some favors!
- We recently moved from Berkley, MI to Danville, VA. Still very much in the early stages of restoration, the car was reassembled for transport. I have even more motivation to get 3318R running now that I work in immediate proximity to Virginia International Raceway.

- The car has been recently restored to about 85%. Nearly all the all the suspension had been renewed, brakes rebuilt and converted away form the servo unit. The engine has not been rebuilt, but was removed from the car, carbs, water pump, fuel pump, all rebuilt. Emissions controls were removed. The car runs great right now. We are still trying to figure out what to do with the passenger heating system. The car had a/c, but are not interested in keeping it. It has just been painted. Taken down to the fiberglass.
- The owner of this car was Chris Savage. He recently passed on 10/07/09 at the age of 53. The restoration of the car was done as a "bucket list" item for Chris. My name is Mark Burke and only met Chris for the first time on August 31, 2009 through my wife's boss. Chris had had the car since about 1989. Drove it some but was put up in the mid 90's to be restored. Chris was an Engineering Director of Plastics, Facilities & Systems for Nissan in Smyrna, TN. But the car was on the back-burner as other things occupied life. This was going to be a retirement item. Now that's not to say the car was not important, just ask his friends, it wasn't time for the car yet. It was important for him and his wife, Barb, to try to get the car restored but thought it would be impossible to get done in the amount of time Chris had left, 3 months? I had spoken with Jeff Lane at The Lane Motor Museum in Nashville. Jeff said that they would be able to work on the car. They got the car on September 1 and began work on the 2nd. The Goal of the car was to have it ready for a trackday on Sept. 18. The museum team had the car ready for the track where Chris drove several sessions. The paint was handled by Shawn Prince at Beatnick Hotrods in Auburntown, TN. The car entered the paint shop September 21. This was the tough part... he had to remove the doors. Chris' health was declining faster than expected and Shawn's time line became more urgent. The car was completed and shown to Chris just prior to his death. It's unfortunate that Chris did not get to enjoy the car in it's current state.

- This restoration was started about ten years ago by someone else. The car was disassembled, the body was painted and the lights and trim were reinstalled. The engine was professionally rebuilt with an oversized oil pan and corrillo rods for track use. The frame was stripped and painted, and that's about as far as they got. I bought it 3 yrs ago and began with the front suspension where I sandblasted and painted all reused parts and replaced others with new as needed. I also split.the 4-speed transmission case, had it beadblasted and then the outside coated with laquer. I also disassembled the rear suspension arms/hubs sandblasted and repainted the parts I intended to reuse. I bought some of the new parts needed to complete like bearings and seals but didn't purchase the small parts for the drum brakes yet. So this is where the project sits now.
- I would say the car is somewhere around 80% complete, partswise. I've tried to either show in pictures what parts I have and list ones that I know I don't have. I'm sure I've missed something though.

- I have owned the car for 12 years, and it drives well. It is quick, light, and very responsive to drive. The car is California smog-exempt.
- There is no play in the shift linkage or rear axles, the door hinges do not sag, it never over-heats, and the chassis (or anything else) has absolutely no corrosion (these are common Europa problems). The car also has a stainless steel muffler.
- Major work in the time I have owned it includes:
- Powder-coating the chassis and suspension
- Rebushing all suspension and shift linkages
- Slightly stiffened springs (140 lbs/in front, 115 lbs/inrear)
- Spax shocks with adjustable dampening rate and spring perches
- Replaced all engine and transmission mounts

- Stainless front suspension bolts (from RD Enterprises)

Condition:- Condx at purchase was fair to good. Big valve Ford dohc, 4spd. I changed out the Konis and put in the adjustable Spax competition shocks, added rear swaybar, removed the carbon filter and associated plumbing, removed air conditioning unit that was in front luggage area, put on the stainless steel exhaust system, perhaps a Stebro, and replaced original non-working alternator with a 55 amp or better unit. It was a great deal of fun on Hwy 101 and Hwy 20 in California coastal mountains, but I sold it after twelve years and moving to Sacramento Valley with flat and level roads. I also shaved the head a couple of times due to failed water pumps to a total of about .030" which might have raised the compression a bit. I had purchased it from Van Ness Imports in San Francisco in 1977 and sold it in 1989 to a Tony Oinuma and I believe it then headed west via the Pacific to Japan. I still have the file of all expenses for the car in case the latest owner would like them. A great car to learn a bit of wrenching and would like to have it back here in Reno, NV.

- Car was purchased in 2007 with 24,117 miles on it. The car was originally sold in Pennsylvania and driven by the original owner until overheated and he warped the head. Car sat for many years until original owner's grandson ask to "fix it" so the engine was pulled, partially torn down and then the original owner passed away. Car continued to sit until an Uncle decided to assist the grandson, he then passes away and the car is sold to Wire Wheel in Florida. I then had the car delivered to Washington State and it is being restored.
- Any assistance on the history would be appreciated.
- I have completed the following:
- Engine built to original specifications sleeved to original bore, block had sat so long with pistons in place that rust had formed and damaged the bores so I had the block restored to use the original pistons.
- Transmission is a four speed even though the car is a TC Special.
- Car has never been hit or had any glass damage.
- Dash has been restored with all switches and gauges.
- I have rebuilt or replaced all brake systems, calipers, new rear cylinders, and rebuilding the master cylinder with a stainless insert and fitting a new reservoir tank.
- New clutch, starter, alternator, wheels, tires, all the usual things.
- Needs paint and interior.
- I am now working on the front suspension and hope to have the car on the road by Summer '09

- I purchased Dennis Johnson’s 73 TCS #3840R. Dennis did a great job of maintaining this example so my first few months as its owner have been relatively painless. Since picking it up from his house and Fresno, I immediately put 900 miles on it driving it up and around the San Francisco Bay Area and then back down the coast to my home in LA.
- So far, I have done the following: Rebuilt Speedo, Replaced Speedo Cable, replaced all 4 tires with fresh rubber, rebuilt alternator, rebuilt both Strombergs, sorted out interior electrics so that all interior lights work, replaced stereo speakers. As far as what’s next, suspension bushings, followed by linkage bushings are the next two items on the list. The car drives great and is a real contrast to my S2 #0090R. Hoping to keep them both…reasonably sure that unless they mate and provide offspring that my wife will “encourage” me to part with the S2 before the year’s end.

- Back in July 2005 I got hold of a 1973 Special. (20 years ago I had an S2 sold it to get a Special, took a bit of time though). The car was bought and used in the UK for one year before it was shipped and stayed in Chicago for nearly 20 years. It was brought back to the UK in July 1993 by it's original owner. He used it on USA reg plates for a year (max time you can use a car in UK on USA plates).The car has 24,800 miles from new. Is in 100% original condition apart from the coolair A/C system that it has.
- Update 6/14/06:
- My Special will get the body back on in the next few weeks, all the chassis, engine, suspension and brakes are now complete.
- Update 10/18/06:
- Well after a total ground up rebuild, she’s on the road. Have covered a little over 500 miles, fantastic. Work completed, conversion from Left hand to Right Hand drive. New / refurbished EVERYTHING. All work carried out by myself over the last 18 months.

Reported at that time to be the last 4 speed available in the country (everything else was a 5 speed and $1000 more expensive). Price was $7019 with no radio. Minor electrical and lighting mods. Driven for 6 months, 6000 miles in the Napa Valley. Put in storage for 18 months while I was overseas. Excellent condition, given that it needed new tires at 8K due to 4 wheel drifting thru the Napa mountains. High point was GGLC trip up Highway 101 and across the Calistoga cross with 9 Europas, 2 Elans, and a 7 to do a winery tour in October 1974.
- Sold in Cleveland, Ohio, April, 1978, for $6200 with 16K miles!. In the blizzard of 78, I outran 4WD trucks on snow packed roads at 40 mph, more like a snowmobile than a sports car. Current status unknown.
- Still dreaming of buying another one.

The cost to put 3151R on the road will be significantly less that for 4039R hence 3151R will be made roadworthy, repainted re-upholstered and will incorporate many items from 4039R that are in better condition. The intention is to sell the unwanted items; the body of 4039R is restorable BUT covered in stress cracks.

- I have owned the car since new. It is my second Europa the first being a 1971 S2. For the first 5 years or so of it's life it was pretty much a daily driver. Since than it's been stored for the winter months and is now used a couple of days a week. The car currently has approximately 63,000 miles on it.
- Over the years the car has been updated and modified to make it more reliable/fun. Modifications include replacement of the ZS carburetors with a pair of Mikuni HS42 carburetors. electronic ignition, full mechanical distributor headers, Autometer gauges including an electronic speedometer, upgraded electrical system (relays, fuses, heavier wires, etc.), Spax fully adjustable shocks and uprated springs, and adjustable rear links, and 4 wheel disk brakes using Wilwood calipers. The car has the original Lotus alloy wheels but I'm considering changing to 15" wheels because of the limited availability of 13" high performance tires in the US. I have kept all of the original parts off the car including the emission controls and seat belt interlock system should some one else in the future want to return it concours condition

- I am the owner of 73124201R that was sold on 07/04 car has been sitting for the past 4 year. The original color was L07, has been painted black/ primer gray/ white, which is the present color for now until I finish repairing the driver side front fender which has been replaced at some time in the past and was not done quit right, bondo around area between windshield and front bonnet and at center of body below front bonnet. Which has cracked? Car is a non runner but I have had the engine running shortly after purchase, but have done no more but collect parts that will be needed. I am finally starting to work on it now. This is a type 74 with the 5 speed, and twin cam big valve engine.

- Overall excellent condition. Engine was rebuilt by Autosport in Seattle in 1997 (very few miles put on car since) Autosport is a well known and trusted British car specialist. Reciept shows details of all work done costing $3809.44!! The Car has the rare and very desirable 5 speed gearbox that works perfectly. Clutch and brakes work great. Stromberg carburetors have been replaced with S.U.'s (a big improvement) and emisions manifold removed. Ignition system upgraded to electronic unit from Lotus specialist JAE (includes manual). It has 5 near new Panasport minilite style wheels with new Yokohama AVS 205/60R13 tyres (an expensive setup). Body was recently media blasted down to the fibreglass and smoothed out then painted off white (it was originally white too). This cost over $3000. Paint work is very nice. The red stripe is vinyl and could be removed or modified if desired. The Vitaloni mirrors are brand new. It has a new battery. New CD player (also comes with originl audiovox radio). All electrics including power windows work good.

- Recovered in 1998 from Sevens & Elans in Ayer, Ma.
- Car was a disaster. Carpets rotted, small tears in seat bolsters, cushions moldy, dash cracked and peeling.
- Nasty sony radio and even worse 6x9 speakers with rectangular grills.
- Engine complete, but had not run in many years. Owner of 7s and Elans would never fess up to actual time car had been sitting behind his shop. Cannot recommend “Sevens and Elans” to any current Lotus owner or potential Buyer.
- Total strip down of all mechanical and electrical components. Body was not taken off frame as frame was one of the few things still in good condition. Body sanded to bare fiberglass. Special Dupont sealer (a visit from the Dupont Rep to see the condition of the body), all stress cracks repaired, prepped and painted. Long story there, but the shop painted it the wrong color! It was supposed to be 1972 Corvette Bridgehampton Blue (very close to Lagoon Blue, and the color of my last Corvette), but the folks who mixed the paint mixed to paint code 17 instead of code 27). Finished color is stunning!
- All new hardware, every nut, bolt and screw. New front A-arms, all bearings, bushings, and seals replaced.
- Rolls Royce 100% wool carpets, new seat covers in original pattern, new dash in Hawaiian Koawood (Prestige Autowoods – stunning color and pattern) new door panel skins, original headliner. Doors repaired and Dyna-Matted to receive new speakers. Very hi end Alpine audio with front plenum mounted amplifier and sound processor, MB Quart competition component speakers and custom cross-overs.
- Engine rebuilt ground up. Modified the Stromberg head to receive the Weber Conversion, dual webers, K&N filters. All race bearings, etc. Mild upgrade cams, Dave Bean Phase II, 133.7 HP on the dyno bench before putting the engine in January 2006. Added 65 amp alternator (GM). Tested all wiring to spec diagram, cleaned all electrical connections, etc. Aluminum Diamond Plate firewall with factory horsehair insulation and ½” Dynapad.
- Body unmodified with original wheels and rear suspension components. Spax all around, added race front spoiler for looks.
- Replaced All lamps and bulbs, replaced interior lamp housing, new ash tray. All original instruments removed, cleaned and tested. Cleaned and sealed fuel tanks, original fuel sender (cleaned windings with Coke then an ink eraser – works just fine).
- Added a Chevy Blazer 3rd brake light. Plan was to install under the rear roof lip but instead mounted it on the roof. More a safety issue than for looks.
- An awesome toy to play with.
- 7/31/08
- New lighting effects for Car Shows. Won 3rd place and British Cars of New Hampshire show last September (against several other Lotuses). Winner in class was a new Aston Martin by 2 votes.

- I bought this '74 Lotus Europa Special earlier this year. It had undergone a frame off $20k restoration in the early '90's that spared no expense.Last registered on the street in '95. It was then changed to a non-op registration and garaged until I purchased it. The previous owner was extremely meticulous about it. The car was a two year club concours class winner. It is very ,very clean and everywhere you look you can see things were done right. To revive it from it's hibernation I changed all fluids. Replaced battery, electric fuel pump and electronic pointless ignition system.

- The overall condition is good for a car from 1974. It will take at least 2 years to bring it to great/good shape. It needs a bit of TLC and work. The cracked windshield and new carpets will be done by 8-1-06. With mechanical repairs/updates an on going project. The car is drivable and will be driven as weather/repairs-updates allow.
- Update 4/24/06 - The new carpet and seats are complete as is the radio. I replaced the Clarion unit with a 70's Becker Europa radio out of a M-B. Turns out there were hidden brake problems and they have been corrected. Still waiting for a new custom intake maniford that will use a Weber down draft (FF1600 carb), the same set up as Dave Maughan.
- Update 11-9-06 - Installed the new intake with Weber 32/36 cab. Car runs much better and has a rock solid idle. Noticable power increase across the whole rev range and a kick when the second choke comes on. To me a great improvement. I will keep the original carbs in case for some reason the next owner (no plans to sell) wants it original. Winter projects are to re-finish the dash and replace old electrical items such as voltage regulators and so on.
- Update 10/14/07:
- I have installed a complete new int.and dash. This winter I will install new springs and Spax shocks.

- 1978 broke Camshaft.
- 1983 replaced seat cover (found 15xxQ number in grease pencil on doors and roof).
- 1987 replaced water pump.
- 1992 Spyder Chassis Conversion (40 hrs start to finish 1 person).
- 1993 froze front caliper, Spyder Brake conversion, needed 15” wheels.
- 1994 holed a piston, major engine overhaul.
- 2002 speedometer reads all zeros again.
- 2004 returning from LOG needed new water pump again.
- 2005 got photo in Cleveland Plane Dealer.
- 2006 distributer wore out.
- 2008 maintained, not restored, over 117000 accumulated miles under its own power, 25 oil changes, 8 sets of tires, needs seats done again, reverse still a sometimes thing.

- This is a west coast car and is rust and accident free. The car is not the original color but the interior is all factory and in really nice original condition. - This is the best of the Europa models with only 40K original miles and the 5 speed transaxle. The car is an unmolested original, and the engine was never opened. The first owner was a bit ‘heavy’ and old, couldn’t drive it, and parked the car around 1982. Ever since the car was not driven and was kept in a garage – so NO rust, no accidents, and the dash is really nice. The seats have some small tears (mainly along the upper seams) and the paint is in great condition (no spider cracks). By the way, the owner resprayed the car in the late 70s with a slightly lighter red color (+ metal flakes) – so it looks very impressive (chrome is as new). Two weeks ago the car was taken out of storage and amazingly started almost immediately (after we put new ignition wires). I was able to go around the block and check transaxle (shift is smooth) and brakes (must be rebuilt). After about 5 minutes it stopped and there is something inside cylinder #1. So buyer must assume that the cylinder head must be removed and checked before starting the car.

- This is a rare original Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special with 5 speed transmission and 15k original miles in equally rare L29 Mint Green with the Twin Cam Big Valve Lotus engine.
- I purchased the car 2 years ago to restore it for a personal car but business and time constraints force its sale. It is a driver and I have put several hundred miles on it and am completely comfortable with it (except for the water leak mentioned below in greater detail). Everything works except for a water leak at the original mechanical pump and I am replacing that with a Davies-Criag electric pump though the leak is not fixed yet.
- All the electrics work, the dash works except for the gas gauge (not determined if it's the gauge or the sender), engine runs great, 5sp, etc. Original paint, original interior. I pulled the smog equipment off and it improved drivability significantly but the parts are included in case you need to put them back. The only other things I changed are I added a new design fan to the radiator and a K&N airfilter. The originals are included with the car.
- Exterior color is L29 Mint Green with metallic gold pinstripes. The interior has been listed as champagne or oatmeal. No damage history. I bought the car from the original owner who bought it in Long Beach CA in Dec 1974 for $9526 and drove it until approx 1978. The car was then stored inside until 1999 w/15k miles when it was sent off for much mechanical work and finished with a successful CA smog check.
- Mechanical work included: New pistons, rings, rod bearings, water pump, points, plugs, hoses, switches, timing chain, valve job, carb rebuild, temp sensor, fuel filter, fuel lines, brake boosters, fuel pump rebuild, brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, front caliper kits, front pads and pistons, brake lines, ball joints, tie rod ends, new tires, radiator, etc. Documentation of the above comes with the car. The car was again stored after only a few miles until I bought it from the original owner.
- The car drives great, the only issue has been the above mentioned water pump leak and a Davies-Craig electric pump will come on the car though you may still need to fix the leak at the mechanical pump. Otherwise, I have driven the car several hundred miles and enjoyed it immensely, drives very much like my race car.
- To make this a great road/show car you will need to seal the mechanical water pump, replace the carpet, and repaint the car as it is in original unrestored condition. I have been happy (and gotten much notice) just driving it as is but the green/gold pinstripe would be really beautiful when in like new condition. The body is in generally excellent condition except for a small strip on the drivers side sill where you your heel hits every time you get in the car (I planned to make a polished heel plate for this location).
- I will miss this car, it has great potential and is a very rare example of a great and rare breed. If you are looking for a generally unmolested car to spend a little work on and have a great and rare car, this is it.

- I have owned the car now for the last 8 or 10 years. The car is in serviceable condition, but is by no means a concourse restoration. I have very slowly been getting the car back to roadworthy condition (emphasis on very slowly, ie as time permits). Among other things, I have done the following: rebuilt the brakes, upgraded to new Spax shocks and new springs, replaced the rear wheel bearings, rebuilt the head, replaced the timing chain, added a new cartridge water pump, had the transmission rebuilt, replaced the clutch, and had the radiator flushed. I had the car back on the road a couple of years ago and was in the process of sorting it. Unfortunately, one day I took the car out for a spin and came back to park it in my garage. I discovered that the car was stuck in gear and I could not get it unstuck. I finally pulled the transmission again, and had GT Motorsports in Oconomowoc go through it. I have to admit that I was a bit frustrated and let it set for a while. I finally got the transmission back in the car last month, and am now in the process of putting it back together to see where things are at. In the meantime, I purchased a 2007 Exige S from Fox Valley Motorsports in West Chicago. The car is a ball to drive, in my opinion an updated version of the Europa 30 years later, and has served to scratch the itch, so to speak.
