1971 Singapore Sports Car Race John Macdonald - DNF Caught fire!
Wallace Harper (Hong Kong) owned a white Lotus 47 but I cannot confirm either the chassis number or its purchase date. Besides the above results the car was almost certainly used in the 1968 Selangor Grand Prix which was held the week following the 1968 Singapore GP. The car could also have been used in the Malaysian and Johor GP's held later that year. Its history showed it to be a troublesome car and it was sold to Schomac Racing, Hong Kong, in the summer / autumn of 1969. The car was road registered in Hong Kong, number AH 969. Schomac Racing was a partnership between Fred Scholle and John Macdonald. Macdonald drove the car in sports car races while Scholle drove in the GP's  (Macdonald had a single seater for the GP's). The car was repainted red with a black central stripe and it was found that the windscreen had been shattered at some time in the car's life. The car came with a Cosworth Ford twin-cam 1,600cc running Tecalmet-Jackson fuel injection coupled to a Hewland FT 200 gearbox. During Schomac's ownership the car caught fire at least three times.
Besides the international Far East meetings it was regularly raced in the Motor Sports Club of Hong Kong hill-climbs and slaloms. In early 1971 the Twin-cam engine was replaced by a Cosworth FVA (engine #002) and the car was taken to the Easter meetings in Singapore and Selangor where it caught fire during the Sports Car race in Singapore. After repairing the damage, it was sold to David Ma of Hong Kong in October 1971and he entered it in the 1971 Macau Grand Prix but was tragically killed in an accident during qualifying. The car was totally destroyed and the remains were dumped at sea during the return crossing by lighter from Macau to Hong Kong by lighter.
